Browsing and contacting firms
The site provides guides and direct contact links. It has no homeowner account, quote collection, lead sale, booking or payment service. A link does not send an enquiry on our behalf. When you contact a firm, it handles your information under its own privacy notice. Contact it directly about your property or job.
Business listings and checks
We use public business names, services, advertised coverage, websites and business telephone numbers from firms’ websites. We check carrier registrations and legal identity against official public registers. We keep source URLs, short quotations and check dates. We do not publish reviews, ratings, photographs, dates of birth, owners’ home addresses or private correspondence.
Some business information identifies a person, especially a sole trader. Our lawful basis for ordinary directory processing is legitimate interests: helping homeowners find relevant firms and maintaining an accurate directory. We balance that purpose against the person’s privacy, minimise what we publish and consider objections and removal requests. Public availability alone is not permission for every use. Where personal information is obtained indirectly, we must provide this notice within the applicable timeframe. A personal-contact listing remains on hold until that requirement is resolved.
Messages you send us
We use your email address, name if supplied, message and necessary correspondence to answer corrections, removal requests or privacy enquiries. The basis for ordinary correspondence is legitimate interests; dealing with a data-protection rights request may also require processing to meet legal obligations. Please do not send sensitive details or a homeowner quote request. We do not forward your message to a firm without asking you first unless disclosure is legally required.
Recipients and service providers
Published business facts are visible to visitors. Charlie accesses the research and correspondence needed to run the site. Cloudflare Pages hosts this review preview. A private GitHub repository holds code and selected published evidence. Apple iCloud provides hello@offmains.uk email; Charlie has confirmed that it sends and receives. In the repository, credentials, raw source caches and private correspondence are excluded. No Formspree connection, analytics, advertising or marketing mailing list is active.
Cloudflare can process technical request information, such as IP address, requested URL and browser details, to deliver and protect a hosted site. Provider terms and privacy information describe their technical processing, retention and any processing outside the UK. Charlie manages the provider arrangements and directory correspondence; we do not claim UK-only processing or a fixed provider log-retention period. Retention
Our operating policy: review directory facts and sources at least every six months; correct them when notified; remove obsolete personal contact facts when no longer needed. Delete routine resolved correspondence and obsolete research containing personal data within twelve months of resolution or replacement. Retain a minimal objection or removal record for as long as needed to avoid relisting or unwanted contact. An unresolved complaint or legal requirement may justify longer retention; record and review the reason. Technical hosting and email-provider retention follow the applicable provider service terms and settings; the twelve-month correspondence policy is our own deletion policy.
Your choices and rights
Contact Charlie to ask about your information, request access or correction, ask for deletion or restriction, or object to legitimate-interest processing. Rights depend on the circumstances and lawful basis; portability is not a general right for the directory’s legitimate-interest processing. We may need proportionate information to establish your identity. Ordinary corrections and removal requests are free. If a concern remains, you can complain to the ICO.
Changes to the service
This notice covers the direct-contact directory only. Any future quote service, paid placements, analytics or advertising needs an assessment, accurate notice and approval before it is enabled.
